Hexagon Agility secures first major transit order in Argentina with Agrale Argentina

May 27, 2026 - Press Release

27 May 2026: Hexagon Agility has secured its first major transit order in Argentina, signing an agreement with Agrale Argentina to supply 108 compressed natural gas (CNG) fuel systems for city buses.

This milestone follows successful initial orders for Hexagon Agility’s fuel system solutions in the country over the past year, and marks an important step forward in Argentina’s public transport transformation.

Supporting Buenos Aires’ public transport transition

These 108 new CNG buses are set to enter service from the second half of 2026 in Argentina’s capital city, Buenos Aires, one of South America’s largest public transport markets serving an average of 4.5 million passengers every day.

Hexagon Agility’s CNG fuel systems power tens of thousands of CNG buses globally and contain world-leading and patented carbon fiber cylinders. The technology combines lightweight design with high fuel efficiency, enabling CNG buses to achieve diesel‑equivalent performance and range while significantly reducing emissions. Compared to diesel buses, CNG transit vehicles deliver up to 120% fewer carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions when fueled with biomethane, 80% lower nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions, 100% less sulfur dioxide (SOx) emissions, and noise reductions of up to 50%, supporting cleaner air and quieter city streets.

“We selected Hexagon Agility’s solutions because their carbon fiber cylinders and complete fuel systems have demonstrated outstanding performance and reliability all over the world, and those qualities were confirmed during our pilots,” said Gonzalo Temperini, Procurement Director at Agrale Argentina. “These systems have the lightest-weight and highest‑capacity of any available, allowing Buenos Aires to take advantage of our cheaper domestically produced CNG fuel without having to make any compromises on performance compared to the diesel buses that we’re used to.”

Today, more than 97% of Buenos Aires’ bus fleet runs on diesel, but the city’s Sustainable Mobility Plan and 2050 Climate Action Plan, announced in July 2025, mandate that all new buses entering the fleet from 2027 must be powered by CNG or electricity.

“This technology is a real game changer for the Argentine market,” said Gabriel Ruggiero, Commercial Director at Agrale Argentina. “By combining Agrale’s proven bus platforms with advanced CNG technology, we can scale high‑performance public transport solutions that improve our energy security, reduce emissions and lower operating costs across Argentina.”

“We are honored to work with Agrale Argentina on this landmark project and to support the transformation of Buenos Aires’ public transport system,” said Nicolas Reyes, Director of Sales and Business Development LATAM at Hexagon Agility. “With over thirty years of experience developing these solutions in North America and Europe, we’re excited to build on the success of our initial projects as CNG transit gains momentum in Argentina.”

A strong foundation for CNG transit in Argentina

Argentina’s transition to CNG is underpinned by strong domestic energy fundamentals. The country holds over 30 billion cubic meters of proven natural gas reserves and ranks among the world’s top five holders of shale oil and gas resources, including the Vaca Muerta formation. With abundant domestic gas resources, Argentina is well positioned to scale CNG transit solutions that enhance its energy security while delivering immediate emissions reductions in densely populated cities.
