Sep 14, 2026 - Press Release
14 September 2026 - The new long-term agreement represents a significant expansion of the partnership between Agrale Argentina and Hexagon Agility, strengthening their collaboration in the development of CNG-powered public transport and supporting the continued growth of this technology in Argentina and across the region.
"This agreement marks an important milestone for Agrale, scaling a technology already successfully incorporated into our bus platforms," said Gabriel Ruggiero, Commercial Director at Agrale Argentina. "Moving from 108 units to now more than 400 buses reflects the scale of this next stage and our commitment to public transport in Argentina. It also underscores the value of being a local Agrale Argentina development, built on national production - this lets us respond more quickly and effectively to the specific demands and needs of our customers here in Argentina."
Why CNG is gaining momentum
"Cities and transit operators need solutions that deliver environmental benefits today while also improving economics for fleets and municipalities,” said Eric Bippus, Chief Commercial Officer, Hexagon Agility. “CNG transportation continues to demonstrate its value globally and in Argentina on both fronts, and we’re honored to expand our partnership with Agrale”.
Across Latin America, transportation authorities are increasingly prioritizing technologies that can deliver immediate emissions reductions while leveraging existing energy infrastructure.
Natural gas buses offer several advantages:
Today, in Argentina’s capital city, more than 97% of Buenos Aires’ bus fleet runs on diesel. The city’s Sustainable Mobility Plan and 2050 Climate Action Plan, announced in July 2025, mandate that all new buses entering the fleet from 2027 must be powered by CNG or electricity.
Argentina is particularly well-positioned for CNG adoption due to its abundant natural gas resources and extensive existing infrastructure, supporting both energy security and competitive fuel costs.
A proven partnership for sustainable transit
Agrale has a strong presence in the bus and commercial vehicle market across Latin America, developing vehicles tailored to the operational needs of the region. Combined with Hexagon Agility's lightweight Type 4 gas cylinder technology and decades of expertise in natural gas transportation, the partnership brings together complementary capabilities to support the continued expansion of CNG transit.
“This long-term agreement demonstrates our confidence in the market opportunity for natural gas buses and in Hexagon Agility’s Type 4 cylinder technology,” said Gonzalo Temperini, Procurement Director at Agrale Argentina. “Together, we are helping transit operators move toward more efficient and lower-emission transportation while maintaining the performance and reliability their operations require”.
